Over a decade ago, Arno Steenkamp envisioned a Karoo hunting farm that would reflect the deep-rooted traditions and natural beauty of this arid region. Today, Hartsrust Family Farm spans over 45 000 acres of pristine Karoo land.
Hartsrust house accommodation
Hartsrust House offers a perfect blend of comfort and traditional South African hospitality, making it an ideal home base for your Karoo adventures. Hartsrust House offers a spacious and comfortable retreat, perfectly suited for large groups. The main house sleeps 13 guests, with an additional flat next door accommodating four more.
Step outside and enjoy the expansive grounds, featuring a bathroom building with two showers and two toilets to ensure everyone’s comfort. The house’s thoughtfully designed spaces include all 3/4 beds, ensuring a restful night’s sleep after a day of adventure.
The flat also boasts an en-suite bathroom for added privacy and convenience. With a full bathroom inside the main house, complete with a bath, shower, and toilet, Hartsrust House is equipped to meet all your needs for a memorable stay.

Choose from a wide range of hunting experiences designed to match your style and challenge level. Engage in long-range hunting, take on the thrill of walk & stalk, or try voorsit jag for a more traditional approach.
Shooting range and equipment
Before heading out, hone your skills at our on-site shooting range, which offers distances from 100 m to 1000 m. Whether you need a shotgun or a rifle, we have a selection available for hire to ensure you’re fully equipped for your hunt.
Processing and taxidermy services
Make the most of your hunt with our additional services. Caping services are available for an extra charge, and we can arrange taxidermist services to preserve your trophies. Our on-site butchery ensures that all meat processing is handled efficiently, at a rate of R60 per kilogram.
Catering
Enjoy fully catered lunches in the veld or by the riverbanks if weather permits; otherwise, meals will be served at the guest house. You will be treated to local delicacies like roosterkoek, kerrie mince, and vetkoek. Savor freshly baked potbrood, Soetsuur lewer, and fresh springbuck fillet tartare, each dish offering a true taste of the Karoo.
We also offer an on-site abattoir where the game you hunt is professionally processed.
